Poolish 2011

Poolish 2011 Rules

We reserve the right to change the rules along the way if we see something goes very wrong.

Rules

  1. Poolish costs $34 to enter. $17 of that is allocated to the Season Long pool. $17 ($1 / week) is allocated to the weekly payoffs.
  2. Three ways to win:
    1. Season-long Pool: $34 total: $17 toward season-long pot and $17 toward weekly pot ($1/week). Note: Players may join at any time but must pay the entire $34.
    2. Weekly Winner: Weekly pot size will be determined by the number of players signed up. Payoffs will only occur at end of season - computer will track and report winnings.
    3. Booby Prize: for the overall season total, including playoffs, if you end up in dead last place (without penalty points), then you “win” $34. This $34 is allocated out of the season long pool.
  3. Season long pot will be split between 1st, 2nd and 3rd places with 60% going to 1st, 30% to 2nd, and 10% to 3rd place.
  4. Money must be received for season long play (or winners credit > $34) before week 4 starts - otherwise, player docked 1 point increasing per remaining week until received.
  5. Picks are made vs. spread (as opposed to picking outright winners); in addition each player will be asked to enter the total combined score for the Monday night game which will be used as a tie-breaker for the weekly pot.
  6. Spread is determined via Friday's Chronicle (except for Thursday games which will use the Thursday Chronicle). NOTE: In case of computer error (or mis-entered data), we will go by the Friday Chronicle. If the computer does not match the paper, simply pick the team that you predict will win based upon the published spread in the paper. So if the paper says the 49ers are favorites, and you think the 49ers will beat the spread, pick the 49ers, even if the computer has them listed as underdogs.
  7. Favorite must "beat the spread" to win - a tie or "meeting the spread" will be disregarded in calculating wins for the week (similar to Vegas rules).
  8. Weekly Pot Tie-Breaker Rule:In any week where two or more players finish with the same number of points, the following system will be used to break the tie:
  9. Flake Feature: If you login after a game has started, or if you don’t login at all, then the system will give you the left hand side of the line (typically the favorite) for all unpicked games - and you will not be able to change the those picks.
  10. You must enter picks for MORE than 25% of the total number of games for any given week in order to not be considered late. If you are chronically late, we will penalize you, and this includes playoff weeks. The first time, there is no penalty. However, after that, you will be penalized 2 points for each week that you fail to get your picks in on time, increasing. So, on the 2nd week without entering picks, we assess 2 penalty points, 3rd week - 4 points, 4th week - 6 points, 5th week - 8 points, etc.
  11. Participants who do not enter picks for MORE than 25% of the total number of games for any given week will not be eligible for that weekly payout.
  12. Season long pool goes through playoffs and overall winner is calculated including playoff totals. There are no weekly payoffs for playoffs games. For season long totaling, a correct pick of a game results in 1 point. Correct playoff game pick counts for 2 points and the correct Superbowl pick is worth 3 points.
  13. We reserve the right to change the rules along the way if we see something goes very wrong.

Survivor Pool

You may optionally join the Survivor Pool for an additional cost of $6.

Participants in the Survivor Pool will select one team per week, from the slate of teams participating that week, that they feel will win the game, regardless of point-spread. If your selected team wins, then you survive to pick again the next week.

If your selected team loses or the game ends in a tie, then you are eliminated. The participant that survives the longest will win the entire pot comprised of the $6 from each participant that chose to partake in the Survivor Pool.

You may only pick a team once throughout the course of the season. The system will not allow you to pick teams that you have already chosen in prior weeks, teams whose games for the current week have already started, or teams that are not playing in the current week. Once a game starts that includes the team that you have selected, you will be "locked-in" and you will no longer be able to make a selection for that week. If you make no selection for a week, the system will automatically select the Favorite from the last game starting that week that includes an available team for you.
